Narrator (GR) : Good morning, Gemini! I was just 13 years old when John F. Kennedy took office. It was 1961, and my parents were Republicans and they voted for Nixon. Though born of working class people, my mother had attended private school, and identified with the Republican ideals. As a conservative Presbyterian, she feared that the Catholic Church and the Pope would take control over the White House if Kennedy got elected. That, of course, never happened. I was 16 when Kennedy was assassinated, and I mourned his death along with most of the country . John Kennedy was a far from perfect man, but he had proven his courage battle in World War II, and my memories of him and the first lady coincide closely with those of scores of others about the Camelot they inspired.
